Responsibility

Our life, our health, our finances, our planet – they’re all our responsibility!

You may or may not have heard of Jerry ‘DRhino’ Clark. Jerry is a network marketing success story who now spends his life traveling and training network marketers from all around the world. Jerry has a CD that he has created called Murphy’s Committee. This is a brilliant cd for those starting out in network marketing as it gives us a humorous and interesting way of thinking about the MLM journey. To cut a long story short this is the analogy he uses…..

rhino Responsibility To be successful in network marketing we need to get a thicker skin – become a rhino – because the journey is a jungle with cow paddocks on one side where the majority of people live (the cows) and the land of paradise on the other side – where we can have money, freedom, happiness, health and the life we dream of. When we set our goals in the land of paradise Responsibility paradise (join a MLM company with the aim of financial freedom or in fact do anything that is different from the way the masses behave) we must leave the cow pastures and our thin cow skin behind and grow thick rhino skin because in the jungle we get shot at with arrows that will pierce thin cow skin, but just bounce off our thick rhino skin.

In the jungle there are things to trip us up, and swamps where we can’t see where we’re going. Places that are scary and of course Murphy’s committee. You’ve heard of Murphy’s law? What can go wrong probably will? Well according to Jerry there’s a whole committee of Murphys and each one has different challenges that they throw at rhino’s in the jungle to try to stop them reaching the land of paradise on the other side. We rhinos have to be limo2 Responsibility tough and believe in where we’re going – have faith that if we keep charging we’ll eventually arrive in the land of paradise. Even when things get hard and it seems like it’s not working and that it’s all a waste of time, we keep charging anyway. Sometimes we don’t know which way to go – straight ahead? left? right? Sometimes we’re kind of wandering around in the jungle a bit lost and not knowing where we are or what to do next but as long as we keep our vision in site and don’t give up we’ll eventually walk up those banks into the sunshine, get into our stretch limo and be cows1 Responsibility driven to our dream home and our dream life.

The cows on the other hand, stay living in the cow paddocks – worrying about who’s grass is greener, watching ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, reading the gossip in the tabloids and complaining that things aren’t working out for them and that their doctor is useless because he can’t fix them, that the Government’s got it all wrong and is to blame for their misfortune etc. Often cows’ venture into the jungle, but they’re not willing to stay long enough or charge hard enough to start growing their rhino skins and so they give up and retreat back to the cow paddocks where the rest of the cows express their happiness that they’ve regained their senses, given up on those pie in the sky dreams and come back to reality!

I would like to note that the bit from ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ to the Government being to blame for their misfortune, is my addition (it’s not on Jerry’s CD), but it’s true nevertheless.

It seems to me that these days we are not willing to take responsibility for ourselves or our actions, blaming anyone and anything else for everything. We are happy to feed our kids diet coke and other soft drinks, white bread, and whatever the latest junk is that’s advertised aimed a kids. We feed them Nutrigrain for breakfast because the ads say it’s “Ironman Food” and because it’s ‘easy’, and tastes good even tho we know it’s choc full of sugar and common sense would tell us that it’s garbage and then complain when our children are sick all the time, that they are unmanageable, with ADD or ADHD or are diagnosed with diabetes or something worse.

I’ve come across farming families who don’t believe that their families need good supplements for good health and yet they spend thousands on supplements for their livestock because without them know that they won’t earn as much money.

We say we’re too busy to exercise, or cook a decent meal even tho we’ve got two or three hours to sit in front of the TV (electronic income reducer is what Jerry Clark calls it) watching mind numbing garbage on the TV like CSI or soap operas.

We say we don’t have the money to buy fresh fruit and veges for our kids, or to buy products that will make us and our families healthier, but we have money for booze, gambling and cigarettes, fake fingernails, plastic surgery, hairdressers, car payments, new clothes, botox, spray on tans etc etc. Something that I have realised over the years is that no matter what our income, whatever we make a priority, we can afford – that’s a fact – whether we want to admit it or not, and do you know what? Without our health we have nothing – that is also a fact. Prevention is better and easier than cure – that is a fact. However, most of us ignore our health, until it becomes an issue and even then make excuses, leave the responsibility in the hands of a doctor and then blame them when it doesn’t work.

Something I’ve learned over the years is that it is easier to do what I need to to be healthy than it is to have bad health (even tho I don’t feel like it sometimes or I definitely have my times when I’m not so disciplined). Bad health sucks! It stops me from living my life.

What I’ve also realised over the past couple of years is that it’s also easier to go through all the stuff that I’m currently going through, to get to the land of paradise than it is to live as I (and my family) have always lived – just above the poverty line basically – worrying about paying bills and never having enough money. That’s why I’m determined to keep going even tho it might not seem that we’re getting anywhere fast right now.

This might sound harsh, and most of us don’t want to hear it , but when it comes to your health, if you don’t take responsibility for it, YOU are the one that will suffer, and suffer you will. Your family will have the misery of watching your ultimate demise, but it will be you going through it. Through the pain, the misery, the suffering, the indignity, the loss of life and loss of time with your loved ones.

With regard to the other areas of our lives, we will also suffer the consequences of our lack of action and responsibility – however, our family, neighborhood and our environment also will suffer. If we continue on our current path of using products that contain toxic chemicals, we are not only damaging ourselves and our children, but also our environment. If we continue on our current path of using pharmaceutical drugs by the ton, we are poisoning not only ourselves, but our environment and the other inhabitants of our planet.

We currently have birds, fish, and other species changing sex and being born unable to reproduce because of the chemicals being pumped into our waterways from not only industry, but from our homes. Our shampoo, toothpaste and other products we use every day go down the drain and into our environment.

Then there are the drugs that it seems almost everyone takes these days by the bucket load. The artificial hormones in the Contraceptive Pill are being urinated into toilets everywhere and ending up in our waterways along with mind altering drugs such as anti depressants and anti psychotics.

Each of us needs to start thinking about these things and taking responsibility one person, one family, one household at a time or our children and our grandchildren are going to be the ones that suffer as the recipients of the mess we are leaving behind. If we clean up our homes, clean up our diets and clean up our lives we won’t need the huge amounts of pharmaceutical drugs that are currently being used by almost everyone and we will be able to live lives with not only length but also with quality – and that also is a fact!
