Helpful Herbs
Herbs have been used in all cultures since man has existed on this planet. They are used in food to add flavour and colour. They are used in ceremonies. They are used for their smells and their scents and they are used in medicine.
When God or Spirit or Nature or whatever you want to call the amazing power that created us, this beautiful planet and all that grows and flourishes on it, she planned things well. She gave us all that we needed to live and be healthy. There is amazing health giving power in the sun’s rays that beam down on us, in the crystal clear waters that flow through valleys and over rocks, and in the plants that bring both to us for our use – they contain the power of the sun and the vitality of the water and the soil to be used by our bodies so that we may live and be strong.
In all areas of the world, there are herbs that grow naturally, that have medicinal properties that when used will help to keep us well, or return us to good health when we are sick. They’ve been used by all ancient cultures throughout time.
Western medicine turned away from herbal medicine with the advent of the chemical medicines used in allopathic medicine, and it has only been in recent years that herbal medicine is regaining popularity as the realisation that the chemical drugs don’t achieve health begins to dawn on more and more people who have begun looking for a better way to stay healthy.
When used correctly and sensibly, herbs are safe and effective. They don’t always bring instant cure or relief, but will gradually return health to the user, bringing the body back into balance, making it strong and healthy again and promoting health and vitality. Although there are some amongst us, with conflicting interests, who try to steer the public away from herbal medicine by trying to create doubt and fear about the safety of common herbs, but I would point out that there are very few records of death or damage where herbs used in medicine have been implicated and those that are recorded are purely speculation that the given herb may have been a contributor. For those herbs whose safety may be questioned, there are always other herbs that will have the same or similar effects that are perfectly safe alternatives.
One of the best ways to use herbs is in every day cooking and meals. There are many that can be used on a daily basis that will help to keep you healthier all the time. They’ll keep your immune system strong, they’ll keep your cholesterol levels down and they’ll keep help to keep you young, vital, healthy and glowing. Common herbs such as garlic, chili, thyme, chives, rosemary, sage, basil, coriander, and many many more. They’re thought of these days as ‘flavouring’ for foods, but they’re so much more than that. I always say that they’re little power packs of good stuff created and given to us by a wonderful creator for our benefit.

There are many other ways to use herbs for medicinal purposes. As already discussed, include them in your diet, make teas from them or steep them in oil’s or alcohol. Use them externally by including them in ointments, salves or poultices, or buy them already put together in pills, capsules or powders. There are many, many ways and many, many applications. If you learn about herbs and how to use them, your health will never be the same.
Helpful herbs – Use them and use them often for good health.
