MLM or Network Marketing – is it the ideal business?

I invite you to picture this……
Thinking about business

One day an ambitious person who had a desire to progress in life entered a well recognised store that sold high quality and well known products.

Immediately, the person went directly to the owner and said “Sir, I’m very impressed with your establishment. I would like to pursue a career and be your business partner. I promise to work hard and produce good results. In exchange all I ask is the following:

  1. I want to purchase my products at a substantial discount. Say 30% off.
  2. I want to receive monthly dividends between 2 and 10% from all clients I refer to your store, depending on my referral rate.
  3. For all the customers that I develop, I think that I deserve about 40% of their gross purchases.
  4. As my clients refer their clients to you, I feel that you should recompense me up to 13% of their purchases.
  5. When you see that my bonuses have reached $2000 per month, I am asking that you pay for a brand new personal car of my choice and that you will continue to pay for a car of my choice for the rest of my life OR should I choose after a period of time, you will pay the mortgage payments on my home for the rest of my life instead.
  6. I will order what products I want, when I want and have them delivered to my door. I won’t carry any inventory, or do any paperwork. I will leave that up to you and by the way, you can keep track of my clients too.
  7. If my production is good, I expect recognition, compensation and good bonuses. Oh! and…
  8. I will be working from home so that I can be with my family. I’ll work my own hours and at my own pace and I’ll take leisure time and holidays when it suits me.
  9. My family will always come first!

OK. I think that’s about it! When can I start?”

After the owner recovered from shock, he burst out laughing and said “You are not serious! You’re living in a dream world! You will never find an opportunity like that. Not here, or anywhere!”

The owner was very wrong. I found that opportunity.

This is the opportunity I would love to share with you.

Is Network Marketing the ideal business?

What I have described above is what is available in the MLM company that I have my business with (as well as effective safe products!). Others have different compensation plans and some are definately better than others, but no matter how you look at it Network Marketing (other wise known as MLM or even Gossip Marketing) is one of the simplest and quickest ways that ordinary people with not a lot of spare cash on hand, can own their own business and create security, freedom, wealth and the type of lifestyle that most of us only dream about.

If we look at some of the different (legal) ways to earn money they are:

Work for someone in a JOB
Own your own conventional business
Own your own network marketing business

The J.O.B.

Do you know what that stands for? Just Over Broke! Lets face it, most of us work at jobs, to earn money for the business owner. Even when we’re earning a good wage or salary, most of us are just getting by. Think about how long you would manage financially before you ended up in trouble if you lost your job tomorrow or got ill and had to quit work. For most people, that wouldn’t even be a month! It’s scary when we realise that there is no such thing as job security these days. When we have a job, we’re generally up with the alarm clock, sitting in traffic to get to work, spending eight hours or so doing something that we would rather not be doing (or even hate doing!) with people we’d rather not be spending time with if we had a choice, sitting in traffic again to get home, having dinner and watching a little TV before going to bed to do it all again the next day.

We do this for 40 or 50 years, to retire with usually not much (if any) money put away. It’s extremely common for people to retire onto a government pension which pays just enough to eat and pay your electricity if you’re lucky! Others retire with enough money to live an ordinary life for a few years if they’re frugal and then if they live too long they go on a pension and live in poverty until they die.

In a Job we trade time for money. We know that if we give this much time, we get this much money. It feels secure, but it’s not. We’ve been trained to believe that it’s the way to go – get an education, get a good job, climb your way to the top, work for 40 years and retire with a wad of cash. The problem is there is only one space at the top in conventional business and many people aiming at it. Even if you do get it, once there you might not want it! Long hours, and a whole lot of pressure until you retire. Hmmmm!

Own your own conventional business

In conventional business you have choices – start one up or buy an existing business. I worked for myself as a Remedial Therapist and while it was great because I could work the hours that I wanted, and make all my own decisions and even make a decent hourly rate, what I soon realised was that if I wasn’t working there was no money! I realised that it wasn’t going to give me the life that I wanted.
So we decided to go to the next option and buy an existing business. Ours was an unfortunate story. We sold our home and invested all of our money into a business which turned out to be a bad choice as we allowed ourselves to be misled and ended up closing our business losing all of our money (and our home) in the process. Ours is not an unusual story unfortunately. For those who do manage to carry on in their businesses, many just make a living, others do well, but most work long hours, have invested huge amounts of time and money and have all the hassles of staff, stock, bookkeeping etc etc. Some business owners are earning good money, but have little time for themselves or their families and little quality of life.
For someone who doesn’t have money to invest in a conventional business, it is just not an option.

There are also of course many types of investments etc to earn money, but they usually require large amounts of cash to start with – fine when you have it but most of us don’t.

Own your own Network Marketing business

You can generally get into a network marketing business for very little money. Most are no more than a couple of hundred dollars and some are much less. If you put in the work in the beginning in your network marketing business you can create the lifestyle that most people only dream of with true leverage and an income that just keeps on coming and growing for the rest of your life (and beyond) whether you get out of bed in the morning or not. The trick is that in the beginning you work and work and work and don’t get paid much, but eventually you work-get paid, work-get paid, go on holiday-get paid, lie on the beach-get paid, retire-get paid.

In a network marketing business you are paid for telling people about your company and your products and introducing people to the products and the business if they’re looking for a business. Most of the true, successful network marketing companies don’t advertise in the media – all that money goes to their distributors who are doing the advertising for them. The more people you introduce to your business the more you get paid, and what’s even better is that you get paid when the people you’ve introduced, introduce other people also and so on down the line.

There is no top position as all those who produce more results get paid more, so if I introduce someone below me and they work harder and get more results they will earn more than me even tho I’m above them. You can’t get a fairer system than that. Produce more – get paid more – guaranteed!

In this type of business you can create an income that you can retire on in 2 to 5 years or maybe even 10 years if you’re really slow like us – but even if we build our business to a stage that we can retire if want to within the next few years, then that’s pretty good going and you know what? It’s totally do-able. That’s where we’ve decided to be because I don’t want to be working for the next 20 years and retire broke like most people do. We’ve learned that we can have the life that most people only dream of (that’s why so many buy lotto tickets thinking it’s their only chance).

We can do what we want, when we want, with who we want. We can travel the world and enjoy the second half of our lives with good health from the products that we use. This is what we’ve learned from being involved in our business – we’ve watched as others have succeeded and are able to live this lifestyle and learned that we have these choices and we can do it as well as the next guy and so can you!
