Pooooh! Smell that?

When I’m out walking or running in the morning I’ve noticed really bad smells coming from people’s homes – laundry detergent! It absolutely stinks and I can smell it from out in the street! That just goes to show how strong the fragrances are in some of them. (It actually makes me wonder how dogs cope with it – just a thought).
Now, my nose is pretty sensitive these days to chemical fragrances I’ve realised, probably because we stopped using any of them over 7 years ago when we changed to safe products – but I’m sure some of them are getting stronger.
Ray and I avoid the cleaning aisle in the supermarkets whenever possible, because usually when I get to the other end my eyes are burning, I’m sneezing and my nose is streaming!
Do you use this stuff? Have you ever thought about what they use to make it smell like that? It’s certainly not essential oils and flowers! These fragrances are combination’s of untested chemicals, whipped up in a lab where the staff have to wear breathing apparatus and safety gear - that’s a fact. These untested fragrances are known to cause asthma, allergies, and skin problems as well as being possible (probable) carcinogens (that means they cause cancer) and do you know that the common run of the mill laundry detergents can even cause your skin to age much faster? It’s true. Not only do they contribute to your and your families asthma, allergies, headaches and skin problems, but then they’re pumped out into the environment where they do a whole lot more damage to our amazing planet and our wildlife!
I had an experience a few weeks ago in the Sharks club in Southport. We popped in for lunch before I went to work and when I went to the ladies toilets they had one of those automatic spray things (it wasn’t there last time!) and obviously had it pumping! It stunk! I came out sneezing, nose running and felt lousy all night after it and the next day. The company making and promoting those things have a lot to answer for – not only are there the chemical fragrances, but also the propellants being aerosol products - I object to having to subject myself to this dangerous muck every time I use a public loo!
Give me flowers and essential oils any day!
